About OpenAlex
How to Use OpenAlex
1
Visit the official OpenAlex source and identify the dataset, collection, or download that matches your use case. Read the accompanying methodology and license before importing it.
2
Download or query a small sample first. Inspect the schema, units, missing values, timestamps, identifiers, and geographic coverage so you understand what each field represents.
3
For recurring use, build a reproducible import process instead of manually replacing files. Preserve source metadata and update timestamps so downstream users can tell which version of the data they are working with.
4
If the dataset will power an application or model, validate its quality against your target population and keep the original source attribution required by the publisher.
